Psalm 119:34 “Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart.”

Believing the Gospel (1 Cor. 15:1-8) is harder than trying to obey the law. The first requires a new heart, the second a vain heart. As J.I. Packer has famously said, "Sinners cannot obey the gospel, any more than the law, without a heart renewed by the Holy Spirit." It is not that we no longer HAVE to obey the law, it's NOW we can obey the law from a heart of love. Remember 1 John 5:3 “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.”

Christian, what is it today that God has shown you or reminded you in the Word that you need follow through with? God calls you to obey then gives you the grace you need so your heart and hands may do what he has called you to do.      

Soften my heart today, Holy Spirit. Gentle my spirit with your love, heavenly Father. Tenderize my reactions with your grace, Lord Jesus. May the truth of the gospel clarify my perspective, the hope of heaven shape my attitude, and the mercy of God determine my words. In Jesus' name. Amen.
